The Story

Bodega Raffy is the result of a French family dream and is nothing short of a success story for their first ever year on the market (2012).

Having fallen in love with Argentina in 2005, they invested all the family savings into a plot of land in Gualtallary, an area known for the high quality of its wines near Tupungato in the Uco Valley, Mendoza Province. They created everything from scratch, levelling the land, planting the grapes and building the winery from ground to ceiling.

The project brings together three very different individuals from the same family with their different sets of qualities. The father, Jean-Louis, a university professor but with a passion for wine and the urge to become an entrepreneur before it is too late; the older son, Guillaume, having graduated from HEC Paris in France, with five years on the trading floor of Merrill Lynch and Citigroup under his belt, bored with the corporate life and ready to move on and fulfil his dreams; and the younger son, Maximilien, working in a start-up in Paris and eager to use his entrepreneurial acumen to help develop a winery bearing his name.

 The Results

After a lot of efforts, Bodega Raffy released their first vintage in Autumn 2011. And it seems they got it totally right, at least judging by the numerous awards they received at international competitions. Out of 14,119 participating wines at the Decanter World Wine Awards, Bodega Raffy came in the top 118 wines globally with their Malbec Réserve 2010, winning a Regional Trophy: “Best Argentinian Malbec over £10”. And this was their first ever wine in their life!

What Next?

Bodega Raffy aims to rank among the top Argentinian Malbec wines, bringing together the best of the “Old World” winemaking with the fantastic terroir and climate that the Uco Valley can offer. They plan to increase their range and innovate in many kinds of different wines, based around the Malbec theme.
