Website: La Fraccion

The La Fraccion winery is situated near San Rafael in Mendoza at a height over 800 metres above sea level.  Malcolm and Sue Smith planted 7 acres of Malbec vines in 2004.   The climate is very dry with over 300 days of sunshine a year and the vines are irrigated by rivers supplied by meltwater from the Andes.

The brand name of the wines, La Fraccion, means the same in Spanish as English. It represents the tiny piece of land that is cultivated by the Smiths.  They make two styles of wine: the Malbec, which is slightly oaked and the ‘Malbec - Seleccion de Barrica’, which has been aged in French and American oak barrels for a year.
