Who says sequels are never as good as the originals? Finca Don Carlos' 2017 blend is a delicious and intricately structured drink. On the nose there's the aroma of leather, pepper, and rose petals, and on the tongue come the surprisingly Proustian flavours of childhood remade for grown-up tastebuds: the purple and green fruit pastilles, the beachside vanilla ice cream drenched in raspberry sauce.

The 2015 Gran Corte (still on sale) is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot. Its 2017 successor is now 70% Malbec, 20% Pinot Noir, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. We refuse to play favourites, but we are shamless in our marketing, so why not try a bottle of each and see which you prefer?
